High-performance computing for Earth Sciences

PRACE-Italy is the Italian node of PRACE, the European infrastructure for high-performance computing aimed at developing a world-class HPC ecosystem.

Stefano Salon, a researcher at OGS and the responsible for thePRACE-Italy national research infrastructure, discusses it in an interview on GARR News.

The article delves into OGS’s role in the infrastructure, with particular emphasis on the use of supercomputing for studies in oceanography, seismology, and climate change modeling. The TeRABIT project emerges as a significant step to enhance the infrastructure, steering it towards a hybrid HPC/cloud mode, with a strong focus on energy efficiency. This project heralds a new era in the field of high-performance computing in service of Earth Sciences.
