The TeRABIT project was one of the highlights of the GARR 2025 Conference, the annual event dedicated to the evolution of digital infrastructures for research and education.
On Thursday 15 May, Chiara Scaini (OGS) took part in the session "Between centre and periphery: the evolution of computing in research", which focused on the role of distributed and high-performance computing.
In her talk, "Research infrastructures and society: continuum computing, numerical simulation and citizen science", she presented the Urgentshake workflow, developed to carry out urgent numerical simulations in the event of an earthquake.
Thanks to the TeRABIT infrastructure, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), it is possible to drastically reduce processing times from days to minutes, significantly improving both the accuracy and speed of seismic shake assessment in North-Eastern Italy.
A concrete example of how research infrastructures can support society by fostering innovation and enhancing emergency response capabilities.
